Some recollections of the flight

So, after my dad dropped me off at Heathrow yesterday evening, I went through the baggage drop and security really quickly. Took no more than 15 mins - colour me impressed! At 9pm I went through to the boarding gate, but I couldn't hear the announcements so I asked the man next to me. Turns out he was flying all the way to Auckland, NZ and this was just his first leg. I told him about our neighbours who spent some time out there and he said that this was his 4th visit and he was going to be applying for permanent residency.

Anyway, at about 9.50pm, we boarded the plane. I had a window seat near the front, which was reasonably comfortable. The plane was very modern, and the AVOD system was brilliant (with lots of films subtitled too!) as well as the stewards and stewardesses coming around with food and drink every few minutes. For supper I had some sort of chicken dish with potatoes, carrots and broccoli; it was actually really nice despite what people say about aeroplane food...

The man next to me on the plane was from Norway, and his final destination was Sydney, Australia. His route was Oslo - London - Singapore - Sydney. Pretty stressful! After supper, I watched a couple of films before trying to sleep but it was too difficult so I just put another one on and watched the flight tracker. In the morning we had breakfast (poached eggs, bacon, hash browns, tomato) with a few other bits before preparing to land.

After a circle around Singapore, the pilot lined us up to land, but there was really low cloud cover and he was getting too close to the water in order to see past it, so I felt the engines kick in as we went back up into the air for a go around. This time it was still a bit cloudy but we came out of them and touched down.  I went through immigration and picked up my bags before meeting Andrew (a teacher staying at the boarding house) in arrivals and taking a taxi back to the campus.
